Most of us don't have a subscription problem because we're careless. We have one because subscriptions are designed to be forgettable. You sign up for a free trial, use it twice, and move on. The ₹149 keeps leaving your account every month, tucked between your grocery bills and UPI payments, and nothing ever asks you to look at it again.
That's the gap our next app, Submint, is built to close — and today we're giving you an early look before it lands on Google Play. ✨
💸 The problem: silent subscription creep
Nobody sits down and decides to pay for six streaming services and an app they last opened in March. It happens one small "yes" at a time. Each charge is small enough to ignore, and they arrive on different days from different merchants, so you never see the total in one place. By the time you notice, you've paid for months of something you forgot you had.
The usual advice — "just review your bank statement" — doesn't really work, because a statement is a wall of transactions with no memory. It won't tell you which ₹199 is a subscription and which was a one-off, or which service you've actually stopped using.
🔍 How Submint helps
Subcull reads the transaction SMS your bank and UPI apps already send you, and turns that noise into a clear picture:
- 📡 Detects recurring subscriptions automatically. When the same merchant charges you a similar amount more than once, Subcull recognises the pattern and adds it to your list — no manual entry.
- 📅 Predicts the next renewal. If your SMS spells out a date ("valid till 04 Sep"), that's used and labelled Confirmed. Otherwise Subcull estimates from your billing history and labels it Estimated — so you always know how sure the date is.
- 🧟 Flags what you've stopped using. With your permission, Submint checks how recently you opened the app behind each subscription. Haven't opened it in weeks? It gets marked possibly unused — the dead weight worth cutting.
- 🔔 Reminds you before the charge, not after. A quiet notification a few days ahead — with a stronger nudge for the ones you're not using — gives you time to actually decide.
You end up with one screen that answers the question a bank statement never does: what am I really paying for every month, and do I still want to?
⭐ What makes it different
Plenty of apps track subscriptions. Two things set Submint apart, and both come down to respecting your data.
🔒 No bank login. No API. No account. Submint never asks for your net-banking credentials and never connects to your bank. It works entirely from the SMS alerts already on your phone. There's no sign-up, because there's no server to sign up to.
📵 Everything stays on your device. Your messages are parsed on-device and the results live in a local database on your phone — full stop. No SMS content is uploaded, and there's no cloud copy of your subscriptions sitting on someone else's computer. Uninstall the app and the data is gone with it.
🧮 The usage cross-check. This is the part we're most proud of. Knowing you have a subscription is useful; knowing you've stopped using it is what actually saves you money. Submint is one of the few trackers that connects the two.
A fair note on accuracy: renewal dates are predictions, not guarantees, and Submint doesn't cancel anything for you — it points you to the right place and leaves the decision where it belongs, with you.
